HK population hits 7.4mn: Sha Tin being most populous, Central and Western top income rankings

Census and Statistics Department has released a range of information about Hong Kong's population. The city's population stands at about 7.4 million. The labour force totals about 3.81 million people. Sha Tin District is the most populous with about 687,000 residents followed by Yuen Long and Kwun Tong. Together, the three districts account for more than a quarter of the city's population. At the other end, Wan Chai has the smallest population at around 160,000. Demographically, Hong Kong continues to age. The median age stands at 47. Wong Tai Sin is the oldest district with a median age of 51. Hong Kong has roughly 4 million females and 3.35 million males, with a gap of some 690,000. Median monthly income citywide is 30,000 dollars. Central and Western District tops the monthly income list at 45,000 dollars while Sham Shui Po records the lowest at 25,000 dollars.
