Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan says she is very concerned about the rise in oil prices and will meet with local airlines and representatives of the cargo industry this week to build a platform to facilitate communication between the two sides on fuel surcharges.
Chan chaired the first plenary meeting of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council on Tuesday to listen to the views of all members. Some members reported the situation in the Middle East, rising oil prices and other unstable factors.
She said that she had met with local airlines earlier to express her concern about the increase in fuel surcharges, and asked airlines to strengthen communication with the industry and improve price transparency.
The Bureau will work with the industry to tide over the difficulties and maintain Hong Kong's competitiveness as an international aviation hub and logistics center.
