Long queues remain a common sight across US airports as thousands of Transportation Security Administration workers missed work amid a funding row between the Trump administration and the Democratic opposition. Travel disruptions worsened on Tuesday as US senators scurried to salvage a proposal to end the Homeland Security shutdown by funding much of the department. The proposal pertains to airport workers but excludes immigration operations personnel. There's an increasing sense of urgency among US politicians to resolve the issue as travellers now have to wait for hours at airports before boarding their flights in major cities such as Houston, Atlanta and Baltimore. The latest row between the administration and Democrats resulted in more than 10 percent of TSA staff missing work on Monday, while over 400 quit their jobs altogether. Meanwhile, the Democrats insist on their refusal to fund the department without restraints on President Trump's immigration enforcement and mass deportation policies.
