US President Donald Trump said Washington and Iran are having "really good discussions" that could lead to a deal to end the conflict in the Middle East.

However, Iranian parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, denied Iran was negotiating with the US to end the war.

US President Donald Trump said Washington and Iran are having "really good discussions" that could lead to a deal to end the conflict in the Middle East.

Trump said his administration has been negotiating with Iran "for a long time" and he believes a deal is close.

However, Iranian parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, denied Iran was negotiating with the US to end the war.

In a message read out on Iranian state media, Qalibaf said no negotiations have been held with the US and fake news is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped.

Elsewhere, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will continue to strike Iran and Lebanon as the US considers a ceasefire.

Netanyahu said he had spoken to US President Donald Trump, who told him "there is a chance" to leverage battlefield gains into an agreement that realises the war's objectives.

He said there's more to come, Israel will protect its vital interests in any situation.
