Israeli Finance Minister calls for annexation of Southern Lebanon for border security

Israeli Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich called for the annexation of Southern Lebanon in a bid to ensure Israel's border security in the north.

The Israeli official said the war with Lebanese Shia Muslim paramilitary group Hezbollah must end with a "fundamental change", which includes the annexation of Lebanon's southern region up to the Litani River. 

Smotrich compared the new proposed border with his country's occupation of the Golan Heights, a territory which remains internationally recognised as Syrian territory. 

This as Israel continues to push Hezbollah militants further north as part of its operation in South Lebanon.
