Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Prague, rallying against the new government led by Czech billionaire Andrej Babis. They expressed concerns that Babis and his coalition government are a threat to democracy and are steering the country away from supporting Ukraine. The crowd, estimated to be around 200,000 strong according to the organisers, were waving Czech national flags throughout the peaceful demonstration at Letna park. Babis had opposed some key European Union policies on the environment and migration, and rejected financial aid for Ukraine and guarantees for EU loans to the country fighting Russian invasion. Organisers also decried a recent decision by the lower house of parliament to reject a motion to lift the immunity from prosecution of Babis in a fraud case involving EU subsidies.
