The police opened fire in Kwai Chung last night. A man armed with a knife was shot five times by three police officers in the early hours of this morning. The man is suspected to have mental health issues. After the incident, police officers arrived at Castle Peak Road to gather evidence. A metal pipe and knife were found on the ground. The police first received a report at 12:30 a.m., about an armed man wandering around Tsuen Wan MTR station. However, officers couldn't find him upon arrival. Another report came half an hour later. It said the man was brandishing a serrated knife at private cars on the Kwai Chung section of Castle Peak Road. Officers rushed to the scene, and the man came out from the bushes, holding a 20-inch knife and a one-meter-long metal pipe. Verbal warnings from the officers were ignored. Subsequently, three officers fired a total of five shots at him. Senior Superintendent Iu Wing-kan said the armed man rushed toward the officers while yelling "I will kill you." Iu believes his colleagues had no choice but to open fire. The 43-year-old man was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital. Bullet holes were found in his right thigh and right chest. He is a construction worker and has no criminal record. The police initially suspect he has mental health issues as he was seen wearing a dress and muttering to himself.
