Officers open fire at knife-wielding suspect in Kwai Chung

Police say a male suspect, dressed in a dress, was shot in Kwai Chung after allegedly brandishing a knife at around midnight, shouting threats and charging towards officers.

According to police, the man yelled “I’ll kill you” as he rushed at officers. Shots were fired when the distance between them narrowed to around two to five metres.

In total, three officers discharged five rounds to subdue the suspect. He was hit in the right chest and right thigh.

Police say officers had issued verbal warnings and deployed pepper spray, but to no effect. The suspect is believed to have shown signs of mental instability.
