Customs officers, in a joint operation with the Fire Services Department, have cracked down on illegal refuelling activities, dismantling three illegal fuel stations and seizing 1,800 litres of suspected illicit petrol, worth about 54,000 dollars. Two men were arrested. In Ngau Tau Kok, officers arrested a 39-year-old operator of an illegal fuel station and a 70-year-old private car driver who was refuelling at the site, located in a public housing estate car park. Authorities seized 400 litres of suspected duty-unpaid petrol, along with refuelling equipment and two vehicles. Separately, officers also recovered 1,400 litres and 30 litres of suspected illicit petrol in Tung Chung and Sham Shui Po. Customs said the recent rise in fuel prices has likely increased the incentive for illegal fuel trading activities.
