HKUST celebrates 35th anniversary, unveils new medical school plans

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) marked the start of its 35th anniversary celebrations with a ceremony attended by Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan, Deputy Director of Beijing's Liaison Office in Hong Kong Luo Yonggang and Secretary for Education Christine Choi.

In his speech, Chief Secretary Chan highlights that HKUST is preparing to open Hong Kong's third medical school in the 2028/29 academic year, located near the Northern Metropolis Ngau Tam Mei development area. A new integrated hospital, alongside the San Tin Technopole and the Northern University University Town, will create synergies, strengthen ties with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and lead medical innovation.

HKUST President Nancy Ip adds that the university will leverage its strengths in artificial intelligence, biotechnology and interdisciplinary research to transform healthcare and medical education. She stresses that HKUST plans to actively contribute to Hong Kong's economic growth and innovation development through its role in the Northern Metropolis.
