As Middle East tensions push up oil prices, lawmaker Lee Hoey Simon submitted 11 recommendations to the Environment and Ecology Bureau aimed at promoting Hong Kong's green transition. Short-term proposals for the next six months include halving fuel taxes, waiving government tunnel tolls for commercial vehicles and providing fuel subsidies to public transport and logistics operators to reduce costs. Medium-term measures involve accelerating the construction of EV charging stations and public hydrogen refuelling facilities, using land incentives to encourage traditional petrol stations to transition to "oil, electricity, hydrogen" integrated energy hubs. Long-term structural reforms focus on developing electricity grid infrastructure and promoting renewable energy generation from wind and solar power, ensuring energy security is incorporated into Hong Kong's five-year development plan.
