The 98th Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles Sunday with the biggest winner One Battle After Another taking home six Oscars, and Michael B. Jordan winning the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Sinners. A hot topic on the Red Carpet outside Hollywood's Dolby Theatre was the conflict in the Middle East with calls for an end to the war with Iran. This as a protester was arrested as a group was blocking traffic outside the theatre. The protesters were wearing Stop Child Trafficking shirts - referring to the Jeffrey Epstein files. Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler each won their first Oscars, moving tributes were made to Robert Redford, Diane Keaton and Rob Reiner and an absent Sean Penn won best supporting actor. Actor Kieran Culkin said: "Sean Penn - One Battle After Another. Sean Penn couldn't be here this evening or didn't want to so I'll be accepting the award on his behalf." One Battle After Another was favourite to win best picture - which it won, but picked up five more including for best director, adapted screenplay and casting. Sinners took home four awards including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan and Supporting Actress Amy Madigan. "It's all the people who've helped me...as you can see I am a bit flummoxed," Madigan said. As expected, the Netflix sensation KPop Demon Hunters, 2025's most-watched film on the streaming platform won best animated feature. "This is for Korea and Korean's everywhere," actress Maggie Kang said. Outside on the red carpet before the show many of Hollywood's cinema elite had something to say about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Actor Joel Edgerton said: "It's a very complicated world we're living in right now. I just sort of feel like, you know, I feel almost too privileged. The Oscars are weird in that sense, like, you know, you wonder whether...everybody's political, everybody has their own politics. Actors are usually told to shut up, but everybody has an opinion." Actor Javier Bardem said: "We are here to celebrate movies, and it's a great moment, but also there's a great speaker, and there's a great opportunity to say things like no war, no to this illegal war, by creating so many deaths." And on another controversial issue, some protesters a few blocks from the theatre wore shirts saying "Stop child trafficking" refering to the Epstein files. Some protesters sat in the road blocking traffic while others marched and shouted "Save our children". After a few minutes police broke up the blockade and ushered protesters to the sidewalks with police having to forcibly remove one protester who was sitting in the middle of the road.
