Nine people were injured after a car drove onto a pavement in Kowloon Bay on Monday.

Police have arrested a 75-year-old male driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

Provided by a witness of the accident, this video shows the private car stopped between Lam Hing Street and Wang Hoi Road.

Several injured passersby sat on the ground.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and provided medical treatment.

Some were placed on an ambulance stretcher. The nine injured, consisting of seven men and two women, were sent to United Christian Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

This man recalled hearing a loud bang before seeing the car mounting on the pavement. He said the driver looked dazed. The accident happened at around noon.

Firefighters inspected the vehicle and inserted an EV emergency plug into the car to prevent it from moving unexpectedly. Trees and fences were destroyed.

Speaking to the media, police said the 75-year-old driver hadn't consumed any alcohol or taken any drug beforehand.

The force said preliminary investigation suggested that the man had mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake causing the vehicle to lose control.

The driver's 75-year-old wife, who was on the passenger seat and did not wear a seatbelt, was thrown out of the car.

She was unconscious when being sent to the hospital.
