Top Chinese and American officials conclude talks in Paris, with potential areas of agreement in agriculture, critical minerals and managed trade that could be taken up by President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump in an anticipated meeting in Beijing. Sources said the talks led by Vice Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent could set in motion possible "deliverables" for Trump's expected trip to China. But the two sides did not comment officially on details of the talks. The delegations met for more than 6 hours on Sunday at the headquarters of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in the French capital. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce on Monday slammed the US for launching the latest Section 301 trade investigation aimed at 60 economies, including China, over the alleged failures to ban imports made with "forced labour." The Ministry's spokesperson called it a typical act of protectionism that severely disrupts the international economic and trade order. The spokesperson reiterated that China has consistently opposed forced labour and is one of the founding members of the International Labour Organisation.
