The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Railway, which connects Hung Shui Kiu and Qianhai in Shenzhen, targets to begin operations in 2035.
Media on the mainland also cited sources that the route may be extended to Hong Kong International Airport and Nansha in Guangzhou.
Reportedly, Guangzhou is working to extend the route northward, passing through Shenzhen Airport to Nansha.
It's said to possibly extend the route to Hong Kong International Airport to promote a "super hub" among airports in Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
