As Hong Kong is drawing up its own five-year development blueprint to align with the national 15th Five-Year Plan, Chief Executive John Lee says Hong Kong should make good use of the country's industrial ecosystem and opportunities to turbocharge development of the city's emerging industries.

Delivering his address at the Hong Kong Economic Summit, Chief Executive John Lee says major economies around the world are generally maintaining expansion momentum this year but complex geopolitical situations continue to bring uncertainty which clouds the global economic outlook.

Amid these changes, the city leader says the city must seize new opportunities.

Lee says the country has taken leading positions globally in innovation and technology, including artificial intelligence, big data and infrastructure construction.

And Hong Kong can leverage the country's industrial ecosystem and opportunities to turbocharge progress in its own emerging industries.

As the city is formulating its own five-year blueprint which will adopt a broader strategic perspective to recognise Hong Kong's key opportunities, Lee says the SAR government will unite all sectors of society to proactively align with the country's 15th Five-Year Plan.

Cementing the city's roles as a super connector and super-value adder domestically and internationally, John Lee says the city will deepen cooperation with cities in the Greater Bay Area and engagements with emerging markets -- including those in the Global South.
