Explosions were heard in western and eastern areas of Tehran close to a pro-government rally Friday night as the death toll from the US and Israeli strikes on Iran continue to mount. The US Secretary of Defense has announced a probe into the deadly Tomahawk missile strike on an Iranian school. Beijing offered condolences to the death of students and condemned indiscrimate attacks against civilians. Thick smoke billowed from a square in the Iranian capital that was packed with people for annual Quds Day rallies. Media reports say at least one person has been killed. Some demonstrators chanted slogans such as "death to Israel" and "death to America" following the powerful explosion. Several prominent political figures took part in the march in a show of defiance, including Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi. Pezeshkian walked among crowds in support of Palestinians without the escort of bodyguards and was seen taking selfies. In central Iran, residents reportedly burnt the US and Israeli flags in the city of Isfahan. Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth noted the US Central Command designated an investigating officer from outside the CENTCOM to complete a probe into a strike on an elementary school in Minab that killed hundreds. In Beijing, the foreign ministry conveyed deep condolences regarding the deaths of Iranian students and extended sincere sympathy to the bereaved families. A spokesman said "China condemns all indiscriminate attacks against civilians and non-military targets," adding "attacks on schools and harm to children are an even more serious violation of international humanitarian law and broke the bottom line of human morality and conscience." The Red Cross Society of China announced emergency humanitarian assistance of US$200,000 for the Iranian Red Crescent Society, to be used specifically to support the parents of the deceased students.
