Vice Premier He Lifeng is leading a delegation to Paris to kick off a new round of trade talks with the US. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Washington is seeking to retain a stable relationship with Beijing with hopes to secure the supply of rare earth materials. Chinese Ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, pointed out China's policy of opening-up is not a "limited-time Black Friday sale." Vice Premier He Lifeng, also a member of the Politburo, will again meet with the US delegation led by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in the French capital on Sunday and Monday for another round of high-level economic and trade negotiations. Prior to the talks, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said America's goods trade deficit with China has gone down by 30 percent over the past year. He said the Trump administration aims to uphold stable bilateral ties and have a more balanced trade relationship. Greer said the US delegation intends to secure ongoing access to critical rare earth via negotiations while striving to reduce reliance on China. This as Ambassador Xie Feng promised Beijing will "promote balanced trade" by boosting imports and expanding two-way investment cooperation. Xie said for the world, China's policy of opening-up is not a limited-time Black Friday sale but "a constant and ever-expanding opportunity for mutual benefit." The Sino-US trade talks this weekend is widely regarded as laying the ground for US President Donald Trump's state visit to China and meetings with President Xi Jinping. The White House has signalled Trump's China trip could take place from March 31st to April 2nd.
