Ukraine's President said the US easing sanctions on Russian oil was not "the right decision." Speaking at a press conference in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said "this easing alone by the US could provide Russia with about $10 billion for the war. This certainly does not help peace." Zelenskyy said he believes "lifting sanctions will, in any case, lead to a strengthening of Russia's position." He added "the reality is Russia spends this money on weapons-primarily on drones, which are being used massively against Ukrainians." On Thursday, the US Treasury Department announced it would free up Russian oil stranded on tankers at sea due to US sanctions for its war on Ukraine, granting a license to waive those sanctions for a month. This, as the Middle East conflict has caused oil prices to dramatically fluctuate. The Treasury Department allowed India to keep buying crude oil and petroleum products from Russia until April 4th. Last week, analysts estimated there were about 125 million barrels loaded on tankers at sea. US-mediated talks seeking to stop Europe's biggest conflict since World War II are on hold due to the Iran war, though they could resume next week, according to the Ukrainian leader.
