The MTR reported over 1.9 billion passenger trips throughout last year, with cross-border services having seen some of the most significant increases.

The corporation also said it recorded a profit of 11 billion dollars from property development.

Regarding the possibility of fare hikes this year, the MTR noted it will need to assess the median household income figures set to be released at the end of this month.

Recording a fifth consecutive year of profit, the MTR recorded over 55 billion dollars in gains throughout last year, but the figure is still lower than that of 2024's 60 billion.

Profits from regular services dropped by 21 percent, reaching 14.6 billion dollars.

MTR CEO Jenny Yeung said the decrease in profits was mostly the result of poor weather conditions last year, adding that operational costs have been rising.

On the total passenger trips throughout 2025, the MTR recorded a figure of 1.9 billion -- a rise of 0.3 percent year on year.

Local train services saw over 1.5 billion passenger trips, which recorded a 0.5 percent-drop year on year. Similar decreases were seen among light rail and bus services.

This as high-speed rail experienced a surge in passengers reaching 31 million passenger trips.

Meanwhile, the MTR's property development profits reached 11 billion dollars, or a year-on-year increase of 8 percent.
