Cathay Pacific and its budget subsidiary HK Express announced that they will raise fuel surcharges on most routes from Wednesday. Starting March 18, fuel surcharges for short-haul flights will rise from 142 to 290 dollars. For medium-haul flights, the charges will increase from 264 to 541 dollars, while long-haul flights will more than double from 569 to 1,164 dollars. Fuel surcharges for flights from Hong Kong to the Chinese mainland will remain unchanged at 165 dollars. The announcement came the day after its annual results press conference, during which the carrier stated that the jet fuel price has surged amid the ongoing warfare in the Middle East.
