Since the outbreak of the Middle East war, the retail price of automotive fuel in Hong Kong has been steadily rising.

Customs Commissioner Chan Tsz-tat said he has noticed recent instances of individuals smuggling petrol from the mainland into Hong Kong for sale, emphasizing that Customs will intensify its crackdown.

Chan said the sale of untaxed petrol is a criminal offence, and Hong Kong Customs will vigorously combat this.

Chan added the buying of untaxed petrol involves not only tax evasion, but also creates significant fire risks, posing a considerable danger to the vehicles and surrounding neighbours.
