Hong Kong Airlines will adjust its fuel surcharges starting from Thursday. Long-haul flight passengers will need to pay an extra 150-dollar fuel price for a single trip. Amid the tensions in the Middle East, oil prices surged to 120 US dollars a barrel on Monday, the first time in almost four years. Hong Kong Airlines on Tuesday announced that the company will adjust its fuel surcharges from Thursday onward -- the second time in less than two weeks. Passengers travelling to Europe, North America, South West Pacific, Middle East, Africa and South Asian Sub-Continent will require to pay a fuel surcharge of 739 dollars, costing them an extra 150 dollars every trip. The fuel price for flights to Japan and South Korea will be adjusted to 212 dollars, a 30 percent increase. Meanwhile, the fuel price for mainland flights will cost an extra five dollars, and 20 dollars higher for travellers heading to Taiwan. An economist said that the crude oil prices could remain high for the upcoming weeks because many oil wells would require a long period of time to resume its production once they had been suspended.
