Today is International Women's Day. Chief Executive John Lee said the government will continue to support women's development in Hong Kong. The International Women's Day reception was held at the Central Government Offices. Chief Executive John Lee and his wife attended the event alongside other secretaries and government officials. In his speech, Lee highlighted the importance of women in society and at home. Noting that females account for about 54 percent of Hong Kong's population, Lee said the qualities of women resemble the features of four traditional Chinese silk fabrics. He said, "Each fabric has its own character. One represents clarity and poise, which you balance family and career. Another symbolises inclusive spirit, bring people together and building consensus. A third embodies resilience, soft yet unbreakable in the face of challenges. And the last captures women's confidence and grace as you represent Hong Kong on the world stage." Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Alice Mak, said authorities had appropriated more than 66 million dollars from the Women Empowerment Fund since its establishment in 2023. Mak said the fund had supported over 450 female development projects. During the ceremony, the CE mentioned that the second Hong Kong Family and Women Development Summit will be held on March 31st. The event will discuss ways to enhance female development and support them in seizing opportunities.
