The conflict between the US-Israel and Iraq continues and has spread to other Middle Eastern countries. Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau said on a TVB programme that HK's Economic and Trade Office in Dubai reported that the local market is calm - some people may be leaving, which has some negative impact on the local economy, but overall it remains very stable. On how will the conflict affect Hong Kong, Yau said: “Import and export trade may be more affected. Because the Strait of Hormuz is closed. We are currently investigating whether there are other methods. Hong Kong's import and export trade market is very extensive; the Middle East is just one part of it. Our largest import and export trade markets are ASEAN and a number of RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) countries. We plan to explore more new markets, so there will be an impact, but it may not be too significant.”
