As the two sessions continue in Beijing, Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang attended a joint meeting of Hong Kong and Macao members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference this morning. Ding stresses the importance of Executive-led governance.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who is responsible for Hong Kong and Macao affairs, attended the joint meeting of the Hong Kong and Macao members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee.
Chaired by Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and former Hong Kong Chief Executive, Leung Chun-ying, the session brought together more than 200 CPPCC members.
Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, was also present.
The meeting focused on discussions surrounding the government work report delivered by Premier Li Qiang.
During the session, Vice Premier Ding underscored that the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Region governments must strengthen their awareness of being the "masters of their own affairs."
He also stressed that establishing an executive-led governance system is not solely the responsibility of the Chief Executive. Rather, it demands the cooperation and support from all sectors of society, including the legislative, judicial, and executive branches, as well as the wider community.
CPPCC Standing Committee Member Peter Lam, who is also the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, was among those who spoke at the meeting.
He said it is more important than ever for Hong Kong to uphold and improve its executive-led governance system, in order to better integrate into and serve the country's overall development strategy.
He also pointed out that Hong Kong's long-standing adherence to a non-intervention policy has resulted in a lack of a governing mindset for development planning.
This is the third consecutive year that Ding Xuexiang has attended the joint group meeting of Hong Kong and Macao members of the National Committee of the CPPCC.
