Havana and the rest of western Cuba are grappling with widespread blackout caused by a crumbling electric grid that has left millions without power.

This as the Cuban government faces mounting pressure from the Trump administration's curtailing of oil shipments.

This is the second major outage to strike western Cuba in three months.

In capital Havana, residents who are left with no telephone and communication lingered on doorsteps as night fell and used charcoal to prepare food.

A group of musicians performed along the famed seawall. Some youngsters were playing dominoes by a rechargeable lightbulb, saying there's nothing they can do to entertain themselves.

Wednesday's outage was reportedly caused by a shutdown of the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric power plant east of Havana, following boiler's superheater and other existing leaks.

Recovery efforts are underway but full restoration may take several days.
