The Airport Authority held its annual drill in the early hours of the morning, simulating a fire caused by a external charger on an aircraft. The drill simulated a Greater Bay Area flight where an external charger was emitting smoke inside the cabin as the departing flight prepared for takeoff. The captain decided to abort the takeoff, but the aircraft veered off the runway and the landing gear caught fire. Fire services, the Hospital Authority, and other agencies dispatched personnel to rescue the injured, and some received first aid at the scene. This drill mobilized 20 departments and agencies, with 1,000 participants. The Airport Authority believes the drill will improve the emergency response capabilities of other departments and agencies.
