The government on Monday said that a mainland company has obtained the Sandy Ridge Data Facility Cluster site with a tender premium proposal of 581 million dollars. The site will be developed into an advanced data facility for related industry uses. Located in the northern metropolis, the Sandy Ridge Data Facility Cluster site covers an area of more than 110,000 square metres. The government implemented a two-envelope approach for the site's tender assessment -- a weighting of 70 percent was allocated to the non-premium proposal and 30 percent to the premium proposal. With a tender premium proposal of 581 million dollars, Hong Kong Range Intelligent Computing Technology Development Company managed to obtain the land. It's parent company is in Hebei province, who has operated 20 data parks on the mainland. The company must meet several criteria in developing the site. This includes: commencing operations within 42 months, with an estimated cumulative investment of 23.8 billion dollars in the first three years, and offering about 180 skilled positions in that same period. The facility is expected to provide 180,000 peta-floating point operations per second computing power by 2032, equivalent to 36 times the current computing power in Hong Kong. Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong said the government had only received one tender bid for the site. He said while authorities had received multiple bids, the Sandy Ridge development project would be challenging and require a substantial amount of investment.
