An explosion on a vessel injured six people at the Government Dockyard on Stonecutters Island this morning. It is understood that the vessel involved was a Marine Department vessel that had broken down. Several Marine Department crew members were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment. All of them needed to be taken to hospital by stretcher or wheelchair. Some suffered hand injuries, and they were conscious when taken to hospital. Police received a report at around 10:30 a.m. saying that a vessel had exploded at the government dockyard. Preliminary investigations suspect the explosion was caused by an engine malfunction. It is understood the vessel had been moored at the dockyard for its annual inspection, and Marine Department staff were patrolling nearby this morning when they were caught in the blast and injured.
