The new signaling system for the MTR's Tsuen Wan Line has been approved by the government and will be put into service on the 15th of next month.

The MTR anticipates an initial break-in period after the system is installed, but this will not affect operational safety.

The current signaling system on urban lines has been in use for nearly 30 years.

The Tsuen Wan Line will be upgraded to the new system on the 15th of next month during off-peak hours.

The MTR says the new system provides a higher level of safety, using wireless communication technology to allow trains to operate on the principle of "moving sections."

MTR adds once the system is operating normally, existing British-made trains will be gradually replaced by mainland produced trains.

The new system will be rolled out systematically to other urban lines.
