A seven-month-old baby monkey has gone viral online after being abandoned by its mother -- and formed a bond with a soft toy.

Meet Punch, the orphaned baby Japanese macaque at Ichikawa zoo in Chiba Prefecture, who turned to his stuffed orangutan toy for companionship and comfort.

While it has captured the hearts of netizens around the world, he has been filmed mutliple times being harassed or pushed away by older macaques in the zoo.

Punch's story has sparked attention worldwide, drawing crowds to the zoo.

An American influencer even offered to "adopt" the macaque for 250 thousand US dollars -- or 2 million Hong Kong dollars.

The zoo says Punch is gradually adapting to its environment with the long-term goal to integrating into the monkey troop without relying on humans or the plush toy.
