Residents of Cameron, North Carolina spoke out Sunday about the Mar-a-Lago intruder who was shot and killed by the Secret Service and who was from their neighbourhood.

The intruder was identified as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin who breached the perimeters of U.S. President Donald Trump's Florida resort early Sunday morning before he was shot.

Two cars were seen driving out from the property where public records say Austin Tucker Martin lived. While other cars blocked the entrance to the property located at the end of this private road.

Neighbours of Martin were stunned at the news that a member of their small community was the intruder shot and killed by the Secret Service after being seen on the grounds of Mar-a-Lago.

Cameron resident Tony Carlyle said: "This is just farming community out here, mostly family around and all. So it's very odd to hear anything like this that happened out here."

Cameron resident Doug Hankins said: "I'm glad they got a good secret service. For being a Trump supporter, you know, I appreciate what Trump does for us. And I don't see why things like this should happen, but they do."

Security was tight around Mar-a-Lago Sunday. The FBI asked area residents who live near Donald Trump's Florida resort to check any security cameras as they may have footage that could help investigators.

Although Trump often spends weekends at his resort, he was at the White House during this incident. First lady Melania Trump was also with the president at the White House on Saturday night.

The incident took place at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
