Millions of northeastern U.S. residents are stuck at home, under road travel bans and blizzard warnings, as a fierce winter storm hits the region overnight.
The National Weather Service predicts snow of up to 0.6 metres in many areas into Monday, along with heavy winds and sharply reduced visibility.
New York City and Rhode Island banned nonessential road travels from Sunday evening into Monday, with New Jersey also implementing similar restrictions.
Schools are also closed Monday in cities like New York and Boston, while emergency declarations have been issues in several states.
