The CUHK Faculty of Medicine has set a target to recruit 33 new professors across all departments this year, with a global recruitment underway. This is not a typical ward, but a simulation ward at the Prince of Wales Hospital where Year 4 to 6 medical students receive their clinical training. Here, they can master medical procedures before stepping into a real clinical setting. Real patients will also be invited, giving students hands-on experience with diagnostic tools. These renovated teaching facilities now include virtual reality headsets which allow students to perform simulated surgeries in a digital world. In addition to these hardware upgrades, the faculty has started a global search for 33 professionals this year. Dean of CU Medicine PHILIP CHIU said, "We have a non-invasive diagnostic team. We have this innovative clinical oncology team. We have a team which is now ranked world second for gastroenterology and hepatology. I believe that we will not be limiting to a country or to their background. So we also need to consider also what they are advantageous in their development, and also in their outstanding CV that we can see their potential. And of course, we also need to consider their years of development and the age group. The most ideal is the young and high-rising talents." The 2026/27 Budget is set to be delivered this Wednesday. Philip Chiu expressed hope that the government would further support the faculty's medical research and talent acquisition. CHIU said, "I hope that for the financial budget planning that the government can consider this perspective, and also to provide us with more funding in the perspective of development, in the talent recruitment and also retention, and also about the development in innovation, and technological innovation for medicine."
