Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui said the U.S. tariffs would have a limited impact on Hong Kong. After taking office, U.S. President Donald Trump launched tariff wars against many countries, including tariffs on China, which also applied to Hong Kong. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that large-scale reciprocal tariffs were illegal, Trump used another trade law to impose a 10 percent tariff on all countries and regions in the world. Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui said the impact on Hong Kong would be limited. Hui said: “I think this incident actually reflects the stability and certainty of Hong Kong's policies. This is precisely our advantage in Hong Kong as a safe haven and a safe haven for capital and investment, and at the same time, it lets global investors know the importance of predictability. In the past, even with different tariff situations, the impact on our economic resilience has been relatively limited. If we continue our efforts, the overall environment in Hong Kong will only get better.”
