The nine-day Spring Festival holiday in the mainland has passed its halfway mark.

Many tourist attractions continue to see massive crowds.

Some scenic spots have to take temporary crowd control measures to limit visitor numbers.

The Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River in Shanxi drew large crowds.

In Yunyang, Chongqing, an outdoor staircase known as the "Stairway to the Clouds" with 1,999 steps, has attracted an average of 100,000 climbers a day during the Spring Festival holiday.

Also bustling was Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

Owing to the large crowds, Beijing Metro Line 1, Tiananmen East Station and West Station were temporarily closed.

At Harbin's Ice and Snow World, ice sculptures were seen to be melting a few days ago.

Operators later announced a two-day closure before its reopening on Sunday.

On the sixth day of the holiday, railways across the country are expected to carry 15 million passengers throughout the day.
