Shatin host Year of the Horse races

Sha Tin Racecourse hosted the Lunar New Year Races.

As it is the Year of the Horse, many people arrived early. Upon entry, visitors could receive a souvenir pinwheel pen from the Jockey Club, and they could also spin the pinwheels. 

Before the first race, there was a performance. Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo‑po and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law officiated at the lion dance eye‑dotting ceremony.

There are a total of eleven races throughout the day. The first race started at 12:30 p.m. The highlight is Race 6, the 1,600‑metre “Year of the Horse Cup,” with prize money of HK$3.12 million.

The Club said that the Lunar New Year races, together with Saturday’s Mark Six Year of the Horse New Year Snowball draw, would distribute a total of HK$238 million in prizes.

Some racing fans said they came to the racecourse in the Year of the Horse to get a bit of luck and enjoy the New Year atmosphere.
