Sha Tin Racecourse hosted the Lunar New Year Races. As it is the Year of the Horse, many people arrived early. Upon entry, visitors could receive a souvenir pinwheel pen from the Jockey Club, and they could also spin the pinwheels. Before the first race, there was a performance. Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo‑po and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law officiated at the lion dance eye‑dotting ceremony. There are a total of eleven races throughout the day. The first race started at 12:30 p.m. The highlight is Race 6, the 1,600‑metre “Year of the Horse Cup,” with prize money of HK$3.12 million. The Club said that the Lunar New Year races, together with Saturday’s Mark Six Year of the Horse New Year Snowball draw, would distribute a total of HK$238 million in prizes. Some racing fans said they came to the racecourse in the Year of the Horse to get a bit of luck and enjoy the New Year atmosphere.
