Rural leader Kenneth Lau has drawn a "neutral" fortune stick for Hong Kong at Che Kung temple in Sha Tin. Heung Yee Kuk Chairman Kenneth Lau arrived at Che Kung Temple on Wednesday morning to perform the new year ritual -- drawing a fortune stick for Hong Kong. What will Hong Kong's fortune be in the Year of the Horse? "I drew the No.22 fortune stick," Lau said. Speaking to the media afterwards,Lau explained what the stick meant. He said the stick is not bad for Hong Kong, but the city must undergo transformation and be innovative. Lau also said society must stay vigilant despite the appearance of a peaceful atmosphere. Meanwhile, Sha Tin Rural Committee chairman Mok Kam-kwai drew one of the worst fortune sticks, the No. 83, for the district. Mok explained the stick's messages by comparing it to a sick person, saying it requires time for them to recover strength. He said the stick reminds people to stay cautious and be patient. Throughout the day, worshippers lined up outside the Temple to offer incense sticks to Che Kung, a military commander from the Southern Song dynasty, whose birthday is believed to be on the second day of the Lunar New Year. Inside the temple, many worshippers were seen holding a fan-bladed wheel, and it is said that turning the wheel clockwise will bring good luck. For most worshippers, health and prosperity are at the top of their wish lists. Secretary for Security Chris Tang arrived at the temple.Tang first visited a booth from the police force before speaking to temple vendors. In the end, he bought a small decorative item. Speaking of his wishes for the new year, Tang said he hopes for a safe Hong Kong and a steadily developing economy.
