Astronauts of the Shenzhou-21 mission are reaping freshly-grown tomatoes from their very own in-orbit vegetable garden aboard the Tiangong space station.

Among the latest addition to their space farm are the tomatoes which grow downwards, following the source of light below.

The "water aeroponic cultivation" device for the space-grown tomatoes can significantly increase the utilization rate of water through water evaporation.

Over the past ten years, Chinese astronauts have been cultivating lettuce and wheat at the space station.

They are planning to grow carrots, wheat and even plants with medicinal value like goji as well.
