President Xi Jinping replied to a letter from some old friends in Iowa, extending Lunar New Year greetings.

Xi said he visited Iowa 41 years ago and received a warm welcome, memories of which remain vivid.

He expressed that the hope for Sino-US relations lies in the people, and the foundation is in the grassroots.

Xi said: “No matter how the situation changes, the desire for exchange and cooperation between the Chinese and American people will not change.”

He hoped they would continue their efforts to promote friendship between the two peoples and encourage more American youth to make greater contributions to the development of Sino-US relations.

A director of the Iowa Friendship Committee wrote to Xi Jinping earlier, extending New Year greetings on behalf of friends in Iowa to Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan.

In 1985, Xi Jinping, who was working in Hebei Province, led a delegation to Iowa.
