Lunar New Year Parade draws large crowds to Tsim Sha Tsui

The much-anticipated Lunar New Year Night Parade bursts into life at 8 p.m. in Tsim Sha Tsui, dazzling crowds with colour, music and joy. Leading the procession tonight was the float from Cathay Pacific, showcasing two of the airline's classic aircraft models in celebration of Cathay's 80th anniversary. Flight attendants dressed in vintage uniforms greeted the crowds. Close behind is the Hong Kong Jockey Club's float, spearheaded by three gleaming golden horses, symbolising vitality and prosperity for the Year of the Horse. Making its parade debut this year is Hong Kong's McDonald's. Its float recreates the iconic Sha Tin New Town Plaza branch from the 80s, celebrating the fast food chain's 50th anniversary in the city. Beloved character Labubu also charms the crowd. French Tourist Nicolas: "It's very beautiful, it's very interesting, it's very good. (How would you rate it out of 10?) 11." Some spectators say they used to watch the parade on the TV back in Hawaii and it's very impressive seeing it in real life. A total of 12 floats took part this year, which is more than last year. There were also 49 performing groups that delivered a vibrant mix of acrobatics and dance routines. The floats made their way into Canton Road, cheering both locals and tourists with these Cheung Chau bun-themed floats and these little "panda" performers. Chief Executive John Lee said tonight the government will continue to promote Hong Kong as the top travel destinations for tourists while giving New Year blessings. Chief Executive John Lee: "In Chinese culture, horses symbolise vitality, courage and progress. In this Year of the Horse, I wish you and your families health, happiness and prosperity." Eight of them will be displayed at the Kai Tak Sports Park, while the other four will head to Lam Tsuen, Ocean Park, Sha Tin Racecourse and Victoria Park.
