As expected, the Hong Kong airport was busy throughout the day. Crowds of outbound travellers filled the departure hall with long queues forming at many check-in counters. The Airport Authority also held a Lunar New Year celebration event with Chairman Fred Lam announcing that the departure facilities at Terminal 2 will officially commence operations on May 27. Lam said the authority hopes Terminal 2 will help ease passenger traffic at Terminal 1. Fifteen airlines will gradually relocate to Terminal 2. When arriving via the Airport Express in future, passengers can exit on the left for Terminal 1 and on the right for Terminal 2. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the government will continue expanding Hong Kong's aviation network, aiming to sign new air service agreements with 10 new civil aviation partners in the coming year. The focus will be on South America, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
