As we count down to the Lunar New Year, celebrations continue to build momentum across the city.

All 14 Lunar New Year fairs in Hong Kong will stay open overnight until the early hours of New Year's Day.

After dinner, large crowds headed to Victoria Park for the Lunar New Year fairs.

For dry goods stalls, one vendor selling plushies introduced a special campaign -- patrons could take away as many items as they could fit into a paper cup within 15 minutes.

Some flower stalls offered bigger discounts as the night went on.

Shoppers could buy two pots of orchids for just 100 dollars.

LINDSEY: "This market is huge. It is incredible. I don't know I have ever seen this many people in one place. It's so crowded and so fun."

CAIT & SAM: "We can't buy flowers because we don't live here. We will probably stick to the food."

MARIANNA: "We are Italians but we live in Switzerland. We just have a look (at) this New Year fair. It's very crowded but beautiful."

The Transport Department says traffic in the Causeway Bay area has been busy in the evening and urges motorists to exercise patience and drive safely.

The markets will run until 7 a.m. on Lunar New Year's Day offering a full night of colour, tradition and festive cheer.

Tonight, large numbers of worshippers flocked to Wong Tai Sin Temple to wait for the "first incense offering" of the Lunar New Year, to pray for good fortune in the year ahead.

The temple opened at 9 p.m., allowing devotees to queue inside.

On the eve of the Year of the Horse, many residents also headed out for reunion dinners with family and friends.

At this restaurant in Causeway Bay, reunion dinner banquets packages range from nearly 5,000 to 10,000 dollars per table.

By around 6 p.m., the eatery was already fully booked.

This patron says this year's reunion set cost about 15 percent more than last year but the most important thing is that all his loved ones have an opportunity to gather happily and stay healthy.
