The new legislature held its first antechamber meeting this morning with senior officials in the financial and economic areas - led by Financial Secretary Paul Chan. They discussed how to align with the national "15th Five-Year Plan". Nearly 70 out of the 90 legislators participated in the hour-and-a-half-long exchange. They discussed how Hong Kong can better integrate into and serve the overall national development strategy in promoting industrial development, fully aligning with the "15th Five-Year Plan," and how to consolidate and enhance Hong Kong's status as an international financial, shipping, and trade center. Paul said after the meeting that the "15th Five-Year Plan" recommendations were fully considered when he planned the Budget. Chan said: “Hong Kong possesses outstanding advantages in various fields, including finance, trade, and innovation and technology. It can be said that, under the current international geopolitical landscape and the direction of national development, Hong Kong has great potential. For example, in the field of innovation and technology, the country is accelerating the promotion of high-level technological self-reliance and self-strengthening, and Hong Kong can also make unique contributions, including gathering top global R&D teams and talents, gathering cutting-edge innovation and technology companies, and utilizing the full-chain funding supply, including patient capital, to support technological development, as well as the deep integration of technological development and industrial development, to create more and better quality employment opportunities for Hong Kong.”
