The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the HKSAR held a briefing session to promote opportunities for Hong Kong’s young legal talent to be seconded to work in international legal organizations.

Around 100 participants attended the briefing, including representatives from international legal organizations based in Hong Kong, law students from local universities, and young lawyers.

Launched in 2015, the placement programme seconds more than a dozen Hong Kong young legal professionals each year to work at international organizations such as the United Nations.

Secretary for Justice Paul Lam, who attended the event, said that with the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) establishing its headquarters in Hong Kong, this year’s secondment program will be expanded to include placements at the IOMed.

In addition, this year marks the second edition of the “Belt and Road Tour” for Hong Kong’s young international legal talent. The selected participants will visit Yunnan province and Laos to engage with relevant government departments and legal bodies, and take part in regional legal practice exchanges.
