The mandatory seatbelt regulations took effect on Sunday.

This morning, a passenger was trapped after failing to unfasten his seatbelt and required firefighters' assistance. Citybus said the buckle was obstructed from functioning properly by a piece of tin foil, and investigation suggests deliberate damage to the seatbelt.

The passenger filmed the moment he was rescued.

Citybus said around 10:00 AM, they received a report from a passenger that a seatbelt could not be unfastened.

The passenger said he was trapped for about 45 minutes, without air conditioning, and felt unwell, requiring hospitalization.

The passenger said Citybus refused to cut the seatbelt with scissors and asked the Fire Services Department to help.

Despite the incident, the passenger said he supports the seatbelt policy, saying it would save lives in case of an accident.
