Israel's government is objecting to the White House announcement of leaders who will play a role in overseeing next steps in Gaza as the ceasefire moves into its second phase. Israel said the Gaza executive committee "was not coordinated with Israel and is contrary to its policy." The statement also said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told his foreign ministry to contact US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. That particular panel includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and a Qatari official. Both these countries have been critical of Israel's military operation in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Meanwhile, relatives mourned a 16-year-old boy killed in Gaza. Mohammad Barawi's family said he was killed in Beit Lahiya by an Israeli sniper while making coffee for his cousins, hundreds of metres from the Yellow Line demarcating Israeli-controlled territory.
