Trade industry sources say China has rolled out new restrictive measures against Japan by tightening screening of exports of rare earth and other metals since earlier this month amid a diplomatic spat over Taiwan.

It is reported that authorities in Beijing have requested "correct" information on firms buying rare elements, final products, shipment routes, and whether items to be manufactured in Japan with the minerals will be shipped to third countries.

Chinese exporters will have to submit the documents to authorities whereas Japanese companies share the burden in preparations for related information.

Last week, Beijing banned Japan-bound exports of dual-use items that have civilian and military uses, including some critical minerals.

The latest policy is expected to cause further delays in shipments of key materials used in electric vehicles and semiconductors.
