The death toll from a crane collapse that derailed a passenger train in northeastern Thailand has risen to at least 32, with the number of injured now standing at 64. Officials from Nakhon Ratchasima province said a construction crane, which was used to build an elevated Thai-Chinese high-speed railway, fell onto a moving train earlier Wednesday, causing the train to derail and catch fire. The railway links Bangkok to the northeastern province of Nong Khai, bordering Laos. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has toured the scene of train accident. Local media reported that Italian-Thai Development PLC, the main contractor for the involved railway section, said it will fully assume responsibilities related to compensation and medical treatment. An investigation into the cause of the incident has been launched. The Foreign Ministry in Beijing expressed condolences over the casualties.
